New release and a cover reveal

Happy 2018...

Hi everyone, I hope Santa was good to you this year. I received plenty of gift vouchers in my Christmas stocking, I think my family are fed up with pulling their hair out wondering what to buy me. :-)

I hope 2018 brings you much peace and joy. We'll be on the move again in March, hopefully for the final time. But I promise moving house won't get in the way of me bringing you a ton of new releases this year. The Kayli Bright trilogy will be released over the coming few months and I've just started writing the sixteenth book in the Justice series due for release in April.

I'm super excited to tell you that The Missing Children has been very well-received by the ARC team and I can't wait to hear your reaction.

I'm thrilled to announce that The Missing Children is now live on Amazon. You can pick up your copy of the first book in the series at a special introductory price of only 99c/99p here.

http://smarturl.it/themissingchildren

Here's what to expect from this gripping thriller.

"I want my mummy..."

The whisper seems to echo through the rooms of the abandoned house. DI Kayli Bright and her partner, DS Dave Chaplin, aren't strangers to dealing with bad cases, but no one can prepare for the emotional and mental anguish caused by the discovery of a child's remains.

Determined to find the responsible culprit, several of the dead child's family members surface on their radar of suspects...until they learn of another child's abduction.

The investigation leads Kayli to the shocking conclusion that even more children in the area have been abducted. A race against time ensues to find the children before they get lost in a sinister, evil world.

I'm excited to reveal the cover for Killer on the Run, the second book in the thrilling DI Kayli Bright series which is available on Amazon.

http://smarturl.it/killerontherun

Here's the description.

DI Kayli Bright is called to the scene of a terrible accident that appears to be a case of careless driving. However, her gut reaction tells her there’s much more at stake. Within hours, her suspicions are confirmed when she is called to investigate a second incident on the same stretch of road. This time there is no doubt in Kayli's mind that she's dealing with a murder enquiry.

Are the two incidents connected? Is Kayli looking for a driver with a severe case of road rage? Or is there a twisted serial killer on her patch?

As Kayli sifts through the web of lies to capture the killer, her personal life seems to be falling apart. Her fiancé, Mark, returns home from his new job oversees a changed man. What is he hiding? Could Mark's dark secret be destructive enough to put an end to their relationship?

13th Victim - new release

It's a happy release day to Linda S Prather. Here's my review of this stunning read.

Linda Prather has done it again. She’s created a stunning mystery that is character driven and full of intrigue.

Ten years ago Andi Carter was tortured for days by her lover’s partner, Richard Thomas. When she was rescued she lost everything- the man she loved and her job as an investigative reporter along with some of her memory from around the time she was abducted.

Depressed and often seeking solace at the bottom of a whiskey glass, she’s snatched from her stupor when a young girl reaches out for help through the classified ads of the newspaper where she now works.

What unfolds is a blood curdling tale of a dozen young girl’s bodies buried beneath concrete. A 13th Victim will do all she can to survive, including murder.

A fast-paced mystery about vengeance and righting wrongs of the other twelve victims.

Loved the characters and the pace of this page-turning mystery. A cracking addition to Linda’s other stunning novels.

Be sure to pick up your copy of this belter of a thriller at the introductory price of only 99c/99p from  Amazon All Stores

Author Bio:

My name's Netta Newbound. I write thrillers in many different styles — some grittier than others. The Cold Case Files have a lighter tone and are full of fun. I also write a series set in London, which features one of my favourite characters, Detective Adam Stanley. These books are a little grittier. My standalone books, The Watcher and An Impossible Dilemma, are not for the faint hearted, and it seems you either love them or hate them—I’d love to know what you think.

Originally from Manchester, England, I have travelled extensively and have lived and worked in a variety of exciting places. I now live in New Zealand with my husband. We have three grown up children and four grandchildren.

Here are some early reviews from the ARCs I've sent out this month.

By Ashrae TOP 500 REVIEWER on 13 Aug. 2016
Format: Paperback
It's no secret that I am a big fan of this author. I read her first book, Cruel Justice, back in 2011 and have followed her ever since through that and other crime series. This book is the third instalment in the Intention Series and although the main story is self contained in this book, two of the great things about this author are her characterisation and character development and so to get the very best out of all her books, it is best to always start from book one in each series and read in order.
So, Louise Gillespie wakes up after being in a nasty car accident. Problem is, her version of what happened before the crash differs greatly from what the police are telling her. She believes she was with her husband Matthew and daughter Sophie, en route to a holiday in Cornwall. The police are adamant she was alone in the car. She starts frantically trying to find her family but the police are doing nothing to help her and write off her memories as false, coming from the head injury she suffered in the crash. But Louise knows she's right and, checking out of the hospital, she goes off to try and find out what is happening. Failing at every turn, she is completely distraught but, as her handbag is missing from the crash, she has nothing or no one to help her. Luckily, she bumps into Ellie and Brian, two retired cops turned PIs who are on holiday. Can Ellie and Brian get to the truth of what happened to Louise. Is she right about her version of events, or is she just delusional? And if she is right, what on earth is going on, and more importantly why?
Oooh this book was deliciously fast paced and action packed. It was also very well plotted. There were some times when I was reading that I thought, no, that's contradictory, that doesn't make sense, but I went with it cos I know this author and what she does, She tests her readers - not sure if it's by design or accident, but I know of old that this is the way it is and, to my delight, I was right, all was explained a few pages later.
The book hits the ground running pretty much from page one and the action doesn't stop right until the end. There is no padding, there are no wasted words. Pacing is excellent, there are some slightly calmer moments every so often through the book, which I am thankful for as I do need a bit of respite every so often.
As already mentioned, this author writes brilliant characters. They are always well fleshed out and real, very real. But, not only are they great characters, they have some great interactions. This author writes the best banter I have read, and I read a lot!
The storyline is original. I am amazed after so many books that this author still has the power to deliver something completely new. But she does, and I have never managed to work it all out early in any of her books. There's always something I didn't see coming. Maybe she could branch into magic, she's definitely good at the art of distraction.
All in all, a cracking read that kept my attention from start to finish and left me completely satisfied. Just need to wait to see what she has in store for next time.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I started this book in the morning and didn't put it down until I finished it. I was totally absorbed in the very believable characters. I'm not one to go into detail. I'll leave that to the pro's. But just to say, one of the most gripping books in this genre, I've read for quite a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 7 Aug. 2016
By
This review is from: Devious Intention: (A gripping psychological thriller): Volume 3 (Intention series) (Paperback)
Although this is my first book in the Intention series, it worked perfectly well as a standalone book but I do now have to buy books one and two.
I loved the characters Ellie, Brian and Louise, they were so likeable and easy to believe.
Devious Intention is a fast paced story about Louise, who is involved in a car accident with her husband and 4 year old daughter. When Louise regains consciousness, her husband and daughter are missing and no-one seems to believe that she was not alone in the car and was in fact driving at the time. And so the investigation begins when Louise is fortunate enough to meet PI’s Ellie and Brian.
Although I have read and loved many of the brilliant Mel Comley’s previous books, I think this one is one of my favourites so far.
Never a dull moment and I am sure it is going to be a massive hit as usual.

Format: Paperback
I was asked to read Devious Intention by the author in return for an honest review. Although this is in fact the third in the 'Intention' series, it reads fine as a standalone, although I'm definitely going to seek out the first two in the series. This is the story of Louise Gillespie, who suffers a traumatic accident. Lost and alone in Cornwall, she meets Private Investigator's, Ellen and Brian Lynx, who help her to piece together the shocking truth of that day's events. I particularly loved this book because the characters were likeable and believable, as was the plot. It was short enough to read in one sitting, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to all crime and police procedural lovers. Thanks to the author for allowing me to read this ARC. 4.5 stars.

Format: Paperback
This is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.

The story starts with a car accident in which Louise receives a head trauma. When she gains consciousness there is no sign of her husband and daughter. The local police tell her that she was driving and was alone. She doesn't know who to turn to until a chance encounter with Ellie and Brian, two Private Investigators who are on holiday. They believe Louise and want to help her discover what happened.

This is a fast-paced book and kept me enthralled enough to read it in one sitting. I liked the characters of Ellie and Brian and their rapport. It is a definite 5* read.

I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.

When I was offered an ARC by the author of this book, I was over the moon as I just love her books and its like settling down to have a chat with an old friend when I read a new one. Devious Intentions is the third in the Intention series but can totally be read as a standalone novel. I hadn't read the first two before starting this, in fact I hadn't been aware of the series, but I will certainly keep an eye out for them now!

This one starts off with one of my worst nightmares as Matthew and Louise Gillespie set off for their holiday in the car with their daughter Sophie. Louise has just been though a terrible ordeal having suffered a miscarriage and is looking forward to a break away. But when their car is rammed off the road, Louise is knocked unconscious and when she wakes Matthew and Sophie aren't there. And this was where I got totally sucked into the plot! Where were Matthew and Sophie? What had happened to them and why was Louise in the driver's seat? Nobody seems to be interested in helping Louise to find her family, they all think she is delirious after her head injury. But that's where Ellen, Paul and Cally step in after bumping into Louise while they are on their honeymoon.

I took to the former police officers immediately, especially Ellen, as they came to the rescue with a pledge to help Louise find out what had happened to her family. The story twists and turns, never quite going in the direction I had expected. It was a perfect length to chill out with for a couple of hours relaxation, and an enjoyable couple of hours they were!

WOW....I've been left crying and to me that's one of the biggest compliments I can give to a book. When it grips you deep inside you that your that engrossed that your placed right in the middle of a amazing book and don't want it to end......I love the way Mel Comely writes its such a pleasure to read, yet again I'm left wanting more. I love that we have got a nice team forming and I dread to think what they are going to get up too next......I guess I'm going to have to wait....This is a great little series of Mel's but you can read then as a stand alone ( but I believe your missing out on some AMAZING BOOKS ) Thanks again Mel for giving us yet another awesome book !!!! 5*****

I was in a reading slump when I started to read this. Wow this cured me What an exciting tale that starts with a car crash and a missing husband and daughter. The subsequent investigation is an uncomfortable realisation that all is not as it seems. I could not put it down. My thanks to the author for a copy and for restoring my faith in thrillers.

Received ARC from author, fast paced with some interesting characters and well thought out storyline

5 out of 5 stars A well thought out thriller.
 on 7 August 2016
I read this book as an ARC copy through THE Bookclub on Facebook, in exchange for an honest review.
Whilst on holiday in an English sea side town, ex police officers Ellen Brazil and Brian Lynx meet a confused young mother. She has just survived a car accident but is trying to find her husband and daughter. The local police are not much help, Ellen and Brian are now working as PI's and try to help Louise with her hunt. It is wonderful to welcome back Ellen and Brian both well rounded and likeable characters. A five star book for me.

on 14 August 2016
This is one of my favorite of Comley's books and I was excited to see another was released. Comley has done it again. The way she keeps the reader looking in every direction, not knowing what to expect at the turn of a page, is her signature. This book is perfect for the Ellen Brazil and Brian Lynx PI series. These two are on the job to unwind a particularly devious plan. It was a fast read because the story flowed well and I got caught up in the mystery so quickly. If you're a thriller/mystery lover, you'll love this author and in particular this book. This can absolutely be read as a stand alone but you'll want to read all of them anyway, so begin at the start of the series.

GREAT READ!!
on 14 August 2016
Devious Intention is a fast paced thriller which grips you from the first page.
It begins when Louise has a car accident with her Husband and Daughter. She loses consciousness and when she wakes, finds out that her Husband and Daughter are missing and that she was in the driving seat even though she wasn't driving. The Police do not believe her and therefore do not offer much help but a chance meeting with PI's Ellie and Brian who are both on holiday leads them into believing her and helping her solve this mystery.

This is the third book in the Intention series but it can also be read as a stand alone. I really do not know how M A Comley does it, as each one surpasses the one before and this one certainly did not disappoint. I love the relationship between Ellie and Brian and in some parts I found myself holding my breath, which M A Comley's books do to me on many occasions. This is definitely another 5* from me.

I would like to thank the Author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Looking forward to the next one Ms Comley.

Ultimate Justice released today!

Read the first chapter of Ultimate Justice book 6 in the Justice series which has been released today!

Ultimate Justice

Prologue

The swell of the sea had doubled in size in the last thirty minutes.
“Skipper, it’s no good. We won’t make it,” Taylor shouted above the thunder and the howling wind that surrounded them.
The captain threw back his right arm, which connected hard with Taylor’s face. Taylor staggered unsteadily on his feet and landed heavily against the door to the tiny bridge. “Get away from me, you imbecile. I give the orders around here, not you. You hear me?”
Taylor righted himself and surged forward, determined to make the captain change his mind. It would be foolish for them to try to enter the port in a storm like this. He watched out the starboard porthole at the waves continually bombarding the deck, and knew they wouldn’t have long before the sea welcomed them with open arms and sucked the life out of them. Thoughts of his wife, Sonia, and his three adorable children entered his mind and stayed there, as if mocking him for undertaking this perilous voyage, despite the huge risk involved. Unexpectedly, his family’s beautiful smiles and the shocking thought that he’d never see any of them again spurred him into action.
He scanned the wheelhouse for a possible weapon. He saw a metal bar in the corner and pounced on it. “Skipper, stand away from the helm.”
Captain Smythe, a man built like a heavy weight boxer, snarled at Taylor before his gaze drifted to the bar he was holding. “Think you can take me on, sonny? Fancy a bit of mutiny, do ya?”
“Our lives are in danger, Skipper. Surely you can see that?” Taylor watched as madness seemed to settle in his aggressor’s eyes.
“I see no such thing. It’s a storm, and a tiny one at that. I’ve been at sea longer than you’ve been out of nappies, lad. Now, let me bring this old girl and her cargo in. Have a day off from your foolishness for a change. Leave this job for a real man to handle.”
The captain’s undermining of him incensed Taylor. He gritted his teeth and his knuckles turned white around the bar he was holding. Smythe turned his attention back to fighting the helm. “You fucking idiot.” Taylor ran at him, screaming like a banshee with the bar high above his head. “I’ll be damned if I’ll stand by and let you kill us all.”
Smythe cried out in pain as the bar crashed against his skull, but he didn’t go down as Taylor had expected. “Ya bastard. Think you can take me on, do ya? You’re the fucking idiot around here if you think that.” Smythe’s iron-like hands connected with first the right and then the left side of Taylor’s face, leaving him dazed. The bar crashed to the floor, and stunned, Taylor held his head in his hands. He’d never been hit so hard by a man before, and he’d been in several fights over his thirty-odd years on Earth.
The boat swayed violently as both men stood their ground, eyeing each other with caution and contempt, but at the same time unaware of the screams coming from the hold below.
The captain beckoned to Taylor. “Come on, then, if you think you’re hard enough. Give me what you’ve got, you nancy boy, with your snooty redheaded wife and your two point four children.”
The captain’s intentional goading worked, and Taylor charged him with all his might. The captain’s chest puffed out and his fists clenched into tight balls. Taylor was clobbered around both ears before he got within a foot of Smythe, but he kept up his charge, despite being almost knocked senseless. Taylor bowed his head low and charged into the captain’s portly stomach. Smythe only laughed at his inept attempt to bring him down.
Taylor, his blood boiling with anger, stooped to the floor and retrieved the bar. He swung it like a golf club at the captain’s lower leg. With the boat being tossed in the high waves, the captain lost his balance and hollered as he went down. His head hit the side of the binnacle supporting the helm, and blood erupted from a wound above his right eye. Taylor tried to stop the wheel from spinning out of control, catching his hand several times in the spokes in the process. “Fuck!” he cried out as a bone snapped in his little finger.
The captain, who was lying on the floor, laughed.
Taylor glared at him, then turned his attention back to the helm, and, watching it intently, he waited for the opportune moment to come his way. Finally, he grabbed one of the spokes firmly with both hands while he anchored himself behind the wheel, his feet spread wide apart. Feeling calmer now that he appeared to have the vessel under control, he guided the ship out to sea and away from the port they had been heading towards.
“Turn this ship around. If you don’t, we’ll go under for sure,” the captain insisted.
“Shut your mouth. If I’d left things for you to sort out, we would have been smashed to pieces on the rocks by now.”
“It takes decades of experienced sailing to become a captain. You’ve got neither the balls nor the stamina, sonny, to bring this ship home safely.”
“We’ll see about that, old man.” Taylor focused fully on the task at hand and chose to ignore anything else the captain had to say. In the distance, he could hear the ghostly screams of their cargo riding on the howling wind. He gulped down the frustration building within him and steered the vessel through the tumultuous waves. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the captain struggle to his feet. But there was little Taylor could do about the captain’s impending attack. His back took the force of the captain’s strike. He gasped for breath as the air was driven from his lungs. Excruciating pain shot through his body.
“Take that, you bastard. I’m taking control of my ship. My ship, you hear me?” The captain ran to the wheel.
Taylor’s hand went in search of what was causing the pain in his back, and his heart sank when he discovered the six-inch blade embedded there. He crumpled to his knees as the blood started to drain from his body. The beautiful faces of his young family flashed before his eyes once again. He asked only one thing: “Why?”
The captain took his eye off the sea for a split second to glance at Taylor, and that was when disaster struck. The wheel spun out of Smythe’s hand, and the force sent him reeling across to the other side of the bridge. The whole boat lurched sideways and water flooded through the open bulkhead door as it flew open. With his life slipping away, Taylor didn’t have the strength to stop himself from being swept out the doorway and onto the deck.
Smythe did nothing to prevent his exit for, despite his hulking frame, the water dragged the captain through the doorway after Taylor. They both choked on the salt water as the mighty energy of the unforgiving, raging sea pulled their heads under the surface. Taylor watched his captain resurface three or four times, his body smashing against the taffrail a few times before being washed overboard and out to sea. Taylor finally succumbed to the sea’s beckoning call.
It wasn’t long before the ship, in her last death throes, finally sank.
The sea sighed with satisfaction at the devastation it had caused, yet no one was there to hear it. Even the ship’s valuable cargo had been silenced.
