The reviews are coming in already:
Format:Kindle Edition
I have read and loved every one of the Justice books. This short story takes us right back to the start of the series. And I have to say it felt a little odd to start with, but was great being reminded of Characters that you forget about as the series has progressed.
In this book Lorne Simpkins is working along side her Partner Pete Childs. A woman's body has turned up, and Lorne and Pete are on the case, trying to discover who has killed her and why. The evidence is building up, and seems to be pointing to an ex boyfriend. Can Lorne and Pete discover if it was him or not and get to the bottom of this Murder case.
I'm always worried with Novella's that reviewing it will give to much away, so I have kept it brief.
What I will say is for those of you that have enjoyed the Justice series, I think you will love this Novella.

Great Mystery, Great Throwback 20 Oct 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This novella was so much fun to read. It was a true throwback as it goes back to the beginning of the series. It took a bit to get back into the past for me but having Lorne as DI and Pete as her DS was a real treat to read again. It reminded me how much I miss the back and forth banter of these two, going on more like siblings than partners. This little book starts out with a murder and soon Lorne and Pete are looking into the woman's past to try and hunt down who could have done this to her. I won't say much more than that as I don't want to give anything away, but this again is right in line with Comley's other Justice books- too good to put down and because it's a novella, it is over much too fast. Pick it up for some great entertainment and a nice throwback to the pairing of Lorne and Pete.

quick, enjoyable read!! 20 Oct 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Mel Comley's latest addition to her popular 'Justice' series, is a short novella that takes us back in time to when Lorne Simpkins was still married to Tom and was still an Inspector working with her Kit-Kat-fanatic partner Sergeant Pete Childs. It was really nice to have Pete Childs back on the scene.
The decomposed body of a young woman is found in a wooded area. Lorne and Pete are called to the scene but there Lorne stumbles on her first hurdle - the ever arrogant French pathologist Jacques Arnaud who as usual is very reluctant to let Lorne in on any details.
The dead woman is then identified as Jenny Bartlett. She has been murdered. Though all arrows immediately point to the victim's ex boyfriend, Simon, a hunch tells Lorne that he is innocent. But could the Inspector's unmistakable gut feelings be wrong this time?
This was a quick, enjoyable read that kept me intrigued till the very end to find out how the murder is solved. Recommended!!

Did you know?
It is a harsh reality in today’s society that domestic violence is so prevalent. Don’t take my word for it here are the worldwide statistics. www.domesticviolencestatistics.org
Every nine seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten.
Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Most often, the abuser is a member of her own family.
Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women - more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
Based on reports from ten countries between 55% and 95% of women who had been physically abused by their partners had never contacted non-governmental organisations, shelters or police for help.
Read one lady's true account of the horrors that goes on behind closed doors in EVIL IN DISGUISE.

I was given a advance free copy of this book but I will give you my honest opinion.
This story is about domestic violence and how it can leave a person venerable—leaving a person susceptible to becoming easy prey. Predators and scam artist are usually successful in their endeavor because they usually pick a person who is emotionally fragile and in desperate need of emotional support and understanding. A con artist will say anything that he/she feels is what the victim wants to hear—even though this is not how they truly feel.
And this is how Jenny became prey. First she was prey to her abusive husband and later to a scam artist. She suffered many years of abuse before it all came to an end. I won't tell you how the abuse ended because I don't want to spoil it for you. You will need to read about the kind of abuse she suffered for years to understand exactly why she felt as she did when all the abuse finally ended.
Unless someone has suffered abuse at the hands of another it is hard for them to understand why women put up with it—especially if it has gone on for years. There are many reasons why women put up with it. For some it may be because of promised threats made toward the victim's family. Economic reasons and lack of education is some times a reason for staying in an abusive relationship. The woman may lack an education and can't work to make enough money to support herself and her children. And fear is also a big factor of why women stay with their abusive husbands. In the US more women are killed by their husbands or boyfriends than by a stranger. Most of these women who were killed was because they sought help from the law for protection. The law can not protect these women 24 hours a day, and after all, a restraining order is just a piece of paper. If an abusive partner wants revenge no law can protect the woman. Abuse is all about control—and that is why these abusers seek revenge because they have lost control over the victim when she left him. I know this to be true because a dear friend and co-worker of mine was killed by her husband because she left her abusive husband and had a restraining order taken out against him. He found her and killed her in front of their 3 kids. So please don't say, "she must like it or she would leave him"—you don't know or understand why she couldn't leave—don't judge her!! Pass judgment on the abuser!
While reading Jenny's story I got chills when the inmate, who she later got involved with, went to court and testified in his own behalf. Word for word that you read in this book is exactly what in real life he really did say in court. I know because I read the newspaper accounting of the actual trail. So know as you are reading this book that it really was based on actual events. The names and locations in this story are about the only thing that was changed—in order to protect the innocent. So if you like true stories that are written as if it were fiction, then this is the book for you. I hope this book opens the eyes of people who don't understand abuse and make them realize how much it does go on—and a lot of times behind closed doors.

and the second one:
"Her clothes not only covered her modesty, they also hid the bruises from his beatings."
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is the central theme in Mel Comley's latest book 'Evil in Disguise'. This psychological thriller is quite different in style from her famous 'Justice' series ones. Some may find this book somewhat hard to read as it's a real, terrifying account of a woman who suffers terribly at the hands of her abusive husband.
"... behind our locked bedroom door, that's where his true darker side emerged."
To a total stranger and even to her three children, Jenny Slater seems to be living an ideal, happy, married life with her husband Bill who adores her ... but nothing can be further from the truth. Behind closed doors, Jenny is living a horrible nightmare. At home she is subjected to continuous beating and sexual violence. She is treated worse than a slave and finds herself trapped in a domestic violent situation through isolation, insufficient financial resources, fear and shame.
Will Jenny ever manage to get out of her desperate situation?
One day, Jenny receives a letter from the States, but this time it isn't from her pen pal Helen, it's from a complete stranger. Who is this person? How does this person even know of Jenny's existence? Should she believe the words in the letter? Or is it just a scam, someone just trying to further abuse her fragile state? Should she just ignore the letter?
... Or reply? But is she jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire in doing so?
Sadly, many domestic violence cases go unnoticed as the victims are afraid to report to and to seek help from the authorities. It's unnerving to think that without no one knowing, a relative, friend or work colleague with whom we interact in our daily lives, might be subjected to such an atrocity behind closed doors.
Through this thriller Mel Comley does a great job in giving voice not only to domestic abuse victims, but also to scam victims. Many people are unknowingly falling victims to fraudulent schemes performed by dishonest individuals, groups, or companies.
Knowing that this book is based on a true story, as I was reading, I felt as though someone was literally squeezing my throat. It's shocking even to imagine what this woman went through.
I highly recommend 'Evil in Disguise' as it has certainly provided me with some interesting food for thought ... Hats off to Mel Comley!!

My latest press release for Grave Intention
My latest press release for Grave Intention
The British author proving you can make a good living from eBooks
Whoever said you can’t make money from writing e-books, hasn’t met M A Comley.
MA, or Mel Comley, was in the first wave of writers to catch the wave of new authors who were the early adopters of the ebook phenomenon.
Some fell by the wayside of the intensely competitive flurry of wanna-be authors, but Ms Comley, armed with a gift for storytelling and a steely determination to succeed, proved to be the real deal. She knew that this was her chance to realise her dream of being an author and she wasn't going to let it pass her by.
Mel Comley |
Just four years on and Ms Comley is an Amazon Kindle Top 20 and Barnes & Noble Nook Top Five bestselling author. She has just published the second book in her second thriller series, Grave Intention.
Ms Comley's first "Justice" series, featuring a feisty but fallible female detective has sold more than half a million copies since its release in 2010, reaching Amazon Kindle's Top 100 in both the UK and the US several times. Its success was mirrored on B&N Nook and on iTunes, with several in theJustice series hitting the Top 10.
Her latest, Grave Intention, is a psychological thriller that follows its predecessor, Sole Intention, released just six months ago. It has opened up a new audience to Ms Comley whose Justice series has made her a familiar name with the ever-growing eBook readership who prefer fast-paced crime novels.
The Intention series is based in the English, West Midlands city of Worcester and features private investigator, Ellen Brazil. When Brazil is hired to find ex-banker Charles Dugan, who disappeared after his mansion burned to the ground, she quickly discovers that Dugan's penchant for high-stakes poker has earned him a circle of very dangerous acquaintances.
Ms Comley said, "Worcester is a place dear to my heart and an area I miss dearly now that I live in France. It's a different type of novel to the ones I'm used to writing and there's definitely a twist at the end that will give the reader an ahhh moment. It's loosely based on a true story that hit the headlines in the UK a few years ago.
"I tend to base my books in places I've lived. The Justice series is based in London and Kent, the Intention series takes place around the Worcester area. A third series I've begun, Hero, is located in Manchester, so I've covered a good chunk of England!"
Before her success, Ms Comley was living with her mother in France, renovating properties and recovering from an unhappy marriage. After attending a creative writing course, she knew the direction she wanted to travel and she had the work ethic to make it happen.
"I do work hard – often 100 hour weeks and my mum, who's my biggest fan and most trustworthy critic, is always there to make sure I remember to stop and eat! At the start people said you couldn't make a good living publishing eBooks, unless you got snapped up by a traditional publisher. I've been approached several times, but I prefer the control I have over my own destiny.
"I was lucky to be in the first wave of eBook authors and have built up a loyal following – as well as a thick skin at times! And I am making a living – a very good one. It's like the old Gary Player quote: 'The harder I work, the luckier I get'."
Grave Intention is available in EBook format on all Kindle via Amazon, Kobo and B&N Nook sites. Keep up with M A Comley at her website: http://melcomley.blogspot.fr/ and by signing up for her newsletters
